I was so blessed to be able to attend the 2022 National Art Education Association's Conference! I learned so much from so many amazing presenters and other art teachers.
One of the amazing sessions I was a part of was called a TASK party. Our workshop was broken up into teams and we each were given cardboard, cutting tools, and some tape. We were told to begin sculpting and that more surprises were to come, so stay tuned! After we began we were told that every ten minutes we would be swapping spots. Soon other incidents began to happen-- our tape disappeared, scissors were moved, and most importantly, we began to be given "TASK Cards". These cards had a variety of different tasks written on them and were secretly given to us by the presenters. I got a few-- one that told me to join another group, one that told me to take all the triangles out of my sculpture, and one that told me to create a distracting game involving the sculptures of the other participants. After about an hour of creating, we began to bridge our sculptures together to create the massive sculpture that is pictured below. This was such an incredible way of building community, experimenting with process, and creating through play-based art. I'm so excited to try this out with some of my students in the art room!
